ElfyCares, a workers dream

Let´s imagine a union activist group from London teamed up to realise an idea for a workers’ care-sharing cooperative. The business may be called “ElfyCares”.

ElfyCares would not only help low-income folks get care workers cheaper, but it would be structured as a wealth-sharing collective in which 75% of the money made by the business would go directly to the workers running it.

Best of all, it’s self-sustaining and massively popular with the workers who use it.

ElfyCares would be hailed as a huge success. Its founders would be heroes. You would love ElfyCares!

Here is another idea for a new business: “We should start a care service in which working people are forced to pay huge sums of money before they get jobs, and then after they get jobs we organize them into a cartel that keeps prices high and standards low, so that families in the ‘burbs get hurt as much as possible”.

That is a cynical, unethical idea for a business. And yet it is exactly what we sometimes get.

Anyway, if, like me, you are a care worker and think something is wrong with some care services, below are some arguments for ElfyCares:
With ElfyCares’ business model most of revenue goes to the workers. Care workers (Elves) keep about 75% of each job.
ElfyCares is good because it is safe. Although unfortunate events can happen everywhere, the safety advantage of ElfyCares is that each job is recorded by time, location, route, activity and the name, details of both the carer and customer, with minimal effort on the part of the customer or the carer. That does not happen with regular care services in such detail — unless you take notes yourself.
Only a small proportion of applicants become qualified to become Elves. Elves are thoroughly screened and background checked. Customers monitor visits from anywhere and review carers. Customers´privacy is always protected, the home is always respected
ElfyCares is good for parents, students or carers who may need to work odd hours. Just turn the app on when you want to earn, turn it off when you’re busy.
ElfyCares is good for people on low incomes. It is not just that it provides carers more cheaply. People may find that using ElfyCares is easier and cheaper overall than a live-in nurse or care home or even hospital.
ElfyCares is easy-to-use. Schedule, manage, and monitor care visits on your phone or computer from anywhere. Customers stay in communication with Elves and get real-time information.
ElfyCares offers flexible pricing and schedules care visits by the hour. The customer pays by the hour. It’s that simple. Customers get great care for just one hour or as long as needed —24/7. No contracts required.

Developing a Better Care System

At Elfy we are selling more than a product, we are selling a service, where most of the customer experience happens outside of our app and website. Similarly to Uber or AirBnb, most of the interaction the people that use our platform have with our service happens in the physical world and conjunctly with other users.
